Galatians 6:2
Today's world holds more pressure and less support than ever for people facing life’s challenges: death of a loved one, illness, violence, divorce, job loss, isolation, aging parents, struggling children, addiction, relocation, life transitions, disability and more.
As Christians united in community, we are called to help one another carry their crosses. That's what Stephen Ministers do.Stephen Ministries trains Christian laypeople to accompany others in their faith community in times of trouble. The Stephen Minister is that confidential “someone to talk to” when life deals you a blow and you need more support than you may have at that time.
Typically, a minister and parishioner meet for an hour each week on the St. John's campus, for an indefinite period. Men meet with men; women, with women.
Stephen Ministers are not counselors, therapists or mental-health experts. Individuals in serious crisis will be connected to professional, credentialed resources.
Stephen Ministers are trained, caring, faithful men and women who bring a compassionate ear and prayerful, calm presence to someone struggling with any of life's hardships.
Stephen Ministers may come from any background. We provide extensive training and ongoing support. If you have a heart for others, a faith that sustains you, and a talent for listening, we invite you to use those gifts in this very special new ministry. Apply here.
