Welcome to PREP
Welcome to St. John Chrysostom's Parish Religious Education Program (PREP).PREP aims to instill a lifelong love of God and neighbor in our young parishioners in grades 1-7. PREP oversees sacramental preparation for all parish youth, regardless of school.
During the 2024-25 academic year, PREP is using an online instructional program that emphasizes family catechesis. These asynchronous lessons include videos, readings and self-paced assignments. Please let us know what you think.

Our mission is to help parishioners in Grades 1-7 develop a lifelong relationship with Jesus. Through example, service, study and prayer, we seek to nurture a love of God and service while teaching the values of our faith and preparing children for their sacraments.
Traditional PREP will be online and asynchronous in 2024-25; Adaptive PREP will meet in person.Adaptive PREP serves youth of all ages with special needs.
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia requires that religious education students be enrolled every year, beginning in Grade 1, to complete their sacraments on schedule. Years may not be skipped.
Students who leave the program temporarily must return to the same grade level.
Our PREP students must be registered parishioners of SJC.
In addition, enrollment in PREP (or Catholic school) is required for participation in St. John's CYO.
We understand that some families have special circumstances that affect their child's religious education.

Parents seeking special arrangements are asked to contact the PREP Office as soon as possible to discuss the needs of their children.

Nothing is more important than our children's safety!
To that end, please review the procedures below carefully and follow them precisely.
Non-compliance risks everyone's safety and will delay every family.
If you have any questions, please contact the PREP Office.ARRIVAL
1. All students must enter through the main doors of Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School.
DISMISSAL
Do NOT enter through the gym.
2. Students should go directly to their classrooms upon arrival.
All students will be in the gym, lined up by class, for dismissal at noon.
WHEN PICKING UP BY CAR
1. Parents should park in the parking lot and enter the gym through the side entrance closest to the main (front) doors when they are called.
To maintain safety and order, parents may not enter the gym before they are told, and no more than 10 parents will be admitted at a time.
2. Parents and their children will exit through the gym's front doors.
FOR WALKERS
1. If your child is permitted to walk (grades 4 to 7 only), parents must send in a signed note that gives your permission for them to walk and to leave without an adult. If your child will be taking younger siblings with them, the note must indicate that as well, with each child's name.
Children will not be dismissed without a parent unless the PREP Office has a signed note.
EARLY DISMISSAL
PREP classes are short, and early dismissals disrupt your child's entire class and their learning.
Unexpected early dismissals are even more disruptive to our children and catechists, and they consume precious class time.
Therefore, early dismissal should be reserved for urgent matters only.
Parents who request an early dismissal should send a signed note with their child that morning.
Please note:- Any child leaving early must be signed out of school before 11:50 am.
- Dismissal at or before 11:30 am will be counted as an absence.

Classes for grades 1-7 are now online and asynchronous unless specified otherwise in the calendar.
Adaptive PREP meets from 9:25 to 10:35 am.
Please check the calendar often, as schedules are subject to change.

We are in need of catechists for the fall!
St. John's PREP enrolls hundreds of children. Our program depends on the assistance of many adult volunteers.
Adults serve as catechists, aides, substitutes and other helpers. No teaching experience is necessary ... just a love of the faith and a desire to install that in our children. We are eager to help you help our children and will provide all materials and plenty of support.
Online catechist training is available free through the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Catechists are expected to obtain Basic Catechetical Certification by their second year. The certification materials are available free and online and may be completed at the individual's own pace from home. Please contact Patty Briganti for the link and log-in credentials..
Note: All adult PREP volunteers must fulfill the requirements of the Archdiocesan Safe Environment Program.

Registration is required each year for every student, beginning in first grade.
Students must complete the full year of PREP to move to the next grade. Grades may not be skipped.
Students with an extended absence will resume the program where they left it. This may delay the reception of their Ensacraments.Enrollment in PREP or Catholic school is required to participate in any CYO sport.
Registration is not complete until tuition is paid and confirmed by email.

All parish children, regardless of school, traditionally celebrate First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in 2nd grade and Confirmation in 7th grade. Students who leave the PREP program must return to the same grade, which may delay their sacramental schedule. Adaptive PREP students may receive their sacraments at any age, in accordance with their needs.
