Through example, service and prayer, we encourage children to develop a lifelong relationship with Jesus.
St. John's PREP offers:
A free pre-K program for children ages 3-5 in the Lower Church Hall during our 9:30 Sunday Mass.
Religious education and sacramental preparation for grades 1-8. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia requires first-grade attendance for children in parish religious education programs.
St. John's PREP uses the Alive in Christ curriculum and meets 24 weeks of the school year. Most of our grade-school PREP classes meet on the St. John's campus from 10:40 to 11:55 a.m. Sundays; a few meet in catechists' homes at other times.
An Adaptive PREP that serves children of all ages with autism and other special needs, using the "Adaptive Finding God" curriculum and materials from Loyola Press. The Adaptive class meets during the 9:30 Mass on Sundays in the Lower Church Hall.
About Sacramental Preparation
Children in St. John Chrysostom Parish, regardless of their school, traditionally prepare to celebrate the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in second grade, and the Sacrament of Confirmation in sixth grade.
However, we recognize that families may have needs or special circumstances that require other arrangements, and we are happy to work with them.
Our Adaptive PREP prepares children and youth of all ages for their Sacraments according to their needs and circumstances.
Catechists and Leadership
The Parish Religious Education Program is under the longtime direction of Theresa Hedlund, Director of Religious Education, with the assistance of Cheryl Stockman.
Our program always welcomes and needs PREP catechists (regular and substitute).

We look forward to joyfully sharing our Catholic faith with your children!
